St. Pius X Catholic Parish is really delighted to accompany individuals and families as you prepare to celebrate this beautiful sacrament of Baptism for your child.
Baptism is the first step in a lifelong journey of commitment and discipleship. Through baptism we are freed from the darkness of our world, we become sons and daughters of God and are embraced into the family of the Church. Baptism removes the guilt and effects of Original Sin and incorporates the baptised into the Church, the Mystical Body of Christ on earth.
Catholic families are encouraged to baptise their children soon after birth, however sometimes people are baptised later, or even as adults. Whether we are baptised as infants or adults, Baptism is the Church's way of celebrating and enacting the embrace of God. Whether you are seeking Baptism for your infant, or yourself, we are here to walk with you every step of the way.
Parents are the primary teachers of the faith, and Baptism is the beginning of a child's life in Christ. We look forward to supporting you as you prepare for this special day.
Baptism Celebrations
Baptisms are held on Saturdays at 10.30am and must be booked well in advance. Please note that families must belong to the parish for a Baptism to be held in our church.
If you belong to another Catholic Parish and wanting your child to be baptised at St. Pius X Catholic Church, a letter of permission is required from your local parish priest.
Baptism Preparation Class
The Baptism Preparation Class helps parents better understand the meaning of Baptism and their role in nurturing their child's faith. The first-time parents and the godparents are required to attend.
Baptism preparation classes are normally held at 11am on Saturdays.
Choosing Godparents
Godparents play an important role in the spiritual life of a baptized child. Together with the parents, they help the child grow in faith and live as a disciple of Jesus Christ.
A child may have: One godparent or Two godparents ONLY
The Church asks those Catholic godparents:
- Be practicing Catholics
- Be at least 16 years old
- Have received Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist
- Not be the child's parent
