A journey of faith, reflection, and community at St Pius X Church.
At St Pius X, the journey of becoming Catholic is a deeply personal and spiritual experience, supported by a welcoming and faith-filled parish community. This journey is guided through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), a structured yet flexible process designed to help individuals grow in understanding, faith, and relationship with God.
Whether you are exploring Christianity for the first time, seeking Baptism, or are already baptised in another Christian tradition and wish to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church, you are warmly invited to begin this journey with us.
What is RCIA?
The RCIA, also known as the Catechumenate, is the Church’s pathway for adults to prepare for the Sacraments of Initiation:
At St Pius X, this process is not simply a course or class, but a journey of faith, reflection, and community. You will be accompanied by parish members, sponsors, and leaders who will walk with you every step of the way.
Who is RCIA for?
RCIA at St Pius X is open to:
- Adults who have never been baptised
- Those baptised in other Christian churches seeking to become Catholic
- Catholics who have been baptised but have not received Confirmation or Eucharist
- Anyone simply curious about the Catholic faith
The Four Stages of the Journey
Inquiry (Pre-Catechumenate)
This is a time of exploration and discovery. You are encouraged to ask questions, share your story, and learn about the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. There is no pressure, only an open invitation to seek and understand.
Culminates in the Rite of Acceptance
Catechumenate (Formation)
During this stage, you begin a deeper formation in the Catholic faith. You will:
- • Participate in Sunday Mass
- • Learn about Church teachings
- • Engage in prayer and reflection
- • Experience the parish community
Culminates in the Rite of Election
Purification and Enlightenment
Intense spiritual preparation, usually during Lent. It is a time of inner reflection, healing, and renewal.
Key moments include the Scrutinies, special rites of prayer and support held during the Lenten season.
Culminates in the Easter Vigil
Mystagogy (Post-Initiation)
Your journey doesn’t end at Easter. This final stage focuses on living out your faith more deeply within the community. You will continue to grow in understanding and discover how your gifts can serve others.
